Advice From The Experts – Beauty with Laura Mac

We have your beauty questions answered! We asked one of our favourite make-up artists Laura Mac about the latest trends in bridal make-up.

Laura Mac trained to become a make-up artist in 2012 at the Academy of Freelance Makeup, London. Her passion for make-up began when she was a dancer surrounded by costume, hair and make-up! Fast forward to now, Laura offers a bespoke service throughout the North East and North Yorkshire working with brides to create individual looks that are completely individual and tailored to their personality and style.

Where do you get your inspiration from? What is your make-up style?

My inspiration comes from everywhere! Looking back at makeup throughout the ages is certainly a favourite of mine. I loved the 1920s through to the 1950s in particular, and love the old Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo and of course Marilyn Monroe. I am also inspired by the work of other makeup artists such as Charlotte Tilbury, Lisa Eldridge and Hung Vanngo. My make-up style is beautifying and pretty, making the most if each client’s features, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I love to showcase amazing features and enhance natural beauty.

What is your favourite lipstick for a wedding day?

My favourite at the moment is Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect. It’s the perfect pinky nude.

What are your favourite beauty trends of 2016-2017?

I’m really pleased to see that dewy skin is still on trend going forward. I also love the idea of a bold red or dark berry lip with little makeup elsewhere to really make a statement; it’s very modern and cool.

What makeup items shouldn’t we leave home without?

I’d pick a good concealer such as Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, a pressed powder and a cheek and lip tint.

Why should brides hire a make-up artist?

When you book a make-up artist you are investing in the knowledge, experience and skill set to help bring out your natural beauty while creating a makeup look that is going to suit all lighting, any photography, be tear and sweat proof and something that will take you right till the last dance! A make-up artist will make you feel like a million dollars by the time you leave the makeup chair, picture-perfect ready to walk down that aisle.
