Kirstin interviewed Amelia and Katie from the Great Ayton salon to get an insight into their top products, styles and trends for your wedding day.
Do brides need to be thinking about their bridal hairstyle at an early stage of the planning process when choosing their dress?
Katie: Definitely, it’s a complete look! You need to know what the dress is like to style the hair. For example, if a bride is considering having her hair down but the dress has amazing detail at the back you won’t get the full effect.
Which hair styling products do you use and love on your brides?
Katie: Backcombing dust is a product we use in almost every bride in both up and down looks. It helps give the hair structure and gives it a stronger hold to last all day. We generally use lighter hairsprays throughout styling which enables you to still work with their hair but always finish off the Session Label 3 Strong Hold Hairspray.
Tell me what is your personal favourite bridal hair look?
Katie: My personal favourite bridal look is soft-textured up-do for an elegant look.
What hair trends do you predict will be popular for 2017?
Katie: Bridal hair trends are so mixed right now, with everyone wanting something new and different, but plaits are definitely a big trend and I can see them being an even bigger trend next year.
Tell us why it is important to have a pre-wedding consultation?
Amelia: We always ask our brides to have a trial beforehand as we like to know exactly what they want and want them to feel comfortable in whichever style they are having as it is their big day and so there is no extra stress. Trials also ensure we know the bride’s hair and how best to prep and style the hair to last throughout the day and night.
What is your favourite celebrity bridal look?
Katie: Millie Mackintosh’s wedding hair was a nice, relaxed up-do which is a rare celebrity look.
