Unique Ideas for Wedding Entertainment

Although your wedding day is all about you and your partner, keeping your guests entertained following the ceremony and wedding breakfast is one of the key elements your friends will remember from your day. Choosing the right entertainment doesn’t have to blow the budget and can be tailored to your style to create a unique experience.

The classic go-to entertainment has always been music, whether that’s a DJ with a playlist of your favourite party songs or a band playing your chosen genre. But of course, bands and singers can come at a price, especially if they are well established in the wedding industry. Try hitting the town and watching different bands perform at different bars, or perhaps ask around the local college or university and see if there are young musicians looking for to start their career.

Photo-booths have fast become a must-have feature at modern weddings. A box of hilarious props and a quirky backdrop always creates the perfect snapshot of memories. If you have a theme to your day, there are plenty of ways to get your own props and set up your own photo booth station using a camera with a timer, or you can see what photo booth suppliers we have in The Little White Book.

If your wedding is planned for the warmer months, you’re going to want to make the most of the outdoor space. Lawn games are perfect to keep everyone happy in the sunshine. Childhood classics like giant ‘Naughts & Crosses’ and hopscotch are great mini-games, while games like Croquet, Jenga and Bowling gets everyone together to have fun. And if you’re young at heart, how about a bouncy castle!

Of course, to be really unique you could always go for a true show-stopper. Acrobats, fire breathers, illusionists; real circus skilled entertainers keep you guests in awe throughout the evening. You could also ask the performers to teach skills to your friends and family and show them how it’s done for a real interactive treat.

A more quiet and relaxed form of entertainment is a caricaturist coming along. Invite an artist to set up a pop-up studio for guests to visit or ask them to go around each table and create a hilarious piece of art for guests to take home with them (a great idea for a favour, too).

As the evening draws to a close, some of your guests (especially the young one) might need a moment to wind down. A cinema is a perfect feature for friends and family members to sit and chill out. Maybe you could showcase a favourite film of yours or even present old home movies from your childhood.

Slowly creeping its way to becoming a must have at weddings is the classic magician. This year, it is predicted we will see a huge grow in sleight of hand magicians making an appearance at receptions, especially the modern illusionists able to pull out tricks your guests won’t see coming! Of course, hiring a magician can be a stretch to the budget, but asking around your local area to see if there are any young magicians wanted to get themselves out there is always worth a try.

When we think of Casino nights and weddings, we usually picture a stag do, but why not include a fun pop-up casino at your reception? This is perfect if you have a glamorous theme to your wedding, and with so many options, like Wheel of Fortune and Higher or Lower, it doesn’t have to become an overly serious game. If you’re worried about the risk of guests using money during the games, ask the casino hosts to use prizes and forfeits to make it a more family orientated game.

If you’re going for a bohemian folk themed wedding, then a ceilidh is a must have! What’s a ceilidh? It’s an Irish or Scottish dance with a folk band leading the way. This is the ultimate entertainment for a hilarious dance party. Everyone will be on the dance floor and joining in as the ceilidh band will guide them in what to do. This is also a great way to get both families mingling.
