Just after Christmas KTB pulled out all of the stops on their latest shoot ‘all that glitters’  On a freezing cold and rather wet day in a Barn in the middle of Yorkshire an amazing team of suppliers and models donned their wellies and ski jackets and created something very special. A big thank you to our models Sally and Kim who managed to look pretty damned hot, in our freezing cold barn!

I love working with Ian Weldon, his style and final editing cannot be emulated and I have to say he makes my makeup artistry look rather good.  Bex from Rebecca Janes secret attic styled the barn in to a set of Hollywood glamour from a bygone era perfectly complementing the gorgeous Vintage gowns we were shooting.  Rocks and Roses also supplied the shoot with beautiful romantic dresses from their new collections.

I translated the brief to mean a rich, sumptuous palette of colour, warm and luminescent.  I discussed this look in detail with KTB editor Sarah as I think gold make-up can tow a very fine line with ‘cheap and gawdy’.

Using a selection of rich gold pigmented cremes against a warm burgundy powder base, I created the theme. The overall look was opulent and slightly dramatic with sparkly eyes and glistening pouts.  Using burgundy as an accent, I also used this to dramatically sculpt the cheekbones and temples.  False strip eyelashes and a matte powder completed the look.

So can you wear gold makeup on your wedding day?  I am going out on a professional limb and saying ‘yes’!
Elle magazine recently documented metallic makeup as being a long lasting trend and seen as beauty follows fashion…!  Every editorial makeup look I have ever worked on, can be translated into a wearable look.  But follow my tips, so you don’t resemble a gilded bond girl!

• I find gold makeup always looks best teamed with an accent colour.  On the shoot I used crimson and burgundy as a contrasting colour.
• A touch of gold used sparingly on the inner tear duct will accent the eyes beautifully.  Similarly a touch of sparkle on the middle of the lid will act as a highlighter.
• On the shoot I did use gold on the lips but unless your wedding theme is strongly stylised or your comfortable with your inner thespian, this might be a step too far.  I would suggest complementing your eyes with a rich deep lip colour.
• To wear a deep coloured lip, skin tone needs to be immaculate! any ruddiness or discolouration will draw attention away from your perfect pout!
