Bake your own red velvet cupcakes! By Bite Size Bakes

There’s no better mid-week pick-me-up than a sweet treat! We teamed up with Bite Size Bakes as they revealed their secret recipe for their delicious red velvet cupcakes with vanilla buttercream, yum!

You will need:

60g Butter

150g Caster Sugar

1 Egg

10g Cocoa

20g Red Food Colouring gel

½ tsp Vanilla Extract

120ml Buttermilk

150g Plain Flour

½ tsp Salt

½ tsp Bicarbonate of Soda

1 ½ tsp White Wine Vinegar


Mix together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy,


Add the egg and mix until well incorporated,

Add the cocoa powder, vanilla and food colouring and mix well,


Add half the buttermilk and mix well, add half the flour and mix well, repeat the process until all the

buttermilk and flour have been added,

Add the salt, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar and mix well for a few minutes,

Divide equally into 12 cupcake cases,


Vanilla Buttercream

250g Icing Sugar

80g Butter

25ml Milk

A couple of drops of vanilla


Mix the icing sugar and butter together until it comes together,

Add the milk and vanilla and mix until light and fluffy,

And there you have it! Enjoy!
