Personal Shopping at Debenhams

Personal Shopping at Debenhams

Have you ever been to a Personal Shopper before?  Neither had I. Are you under the impression that it is a service for celebrities? So was I… That was until I met Natalie and Lorraine from Debenhams’s very own FREE Personal Shopping Department!  Here is my story of how I went in for an appointment full of worry and came out, literally feeling like a new woman…
It was a beautiful Friday morning and I was due to meet Natalie for my appointment, I had ‘ummed and ahhed’ over what to wear for a massive amount of time that morning, what could I wear that would give Natalie the right impression and give her an insight into what I like to wear?!  I plumped for my usual boring staple of skinny jeans, long line checked shirt that I am embarrassed to say was a Maternity Top, nearly three years ago, finished off with some cute little pink floral pumps…
I was so excited but super nervous as I walked through Debenhams, up to the third floor, seeing beautiful clothing and disregarding them as ‘not for me’, as I went. I had taken my wonderful mother-in-law, Nora, along with me for moral support, I can always count on her for an honest opinion! Personal Shopper We met Natalie and the experience started off really well, we were made to feel welcome as we were offered a seat in the private seating and changing room area, offered a cup of tea or coffee and generally chat about the reasons why I was there that day, what was I looking for?  I must keep the details of the surprise for my husband… well a surprise but what I can say is I was looking for a dress that was fit to see me through a beautiful meal, in a stunning location in ‘That There London’.   Natalie asked me some simple questions, like what size was I (14/16), what colours I liked (blacks, cobalt blue, bright colours) and with one last look at me… she was gone!I chatted with Nora for about 10 minutes when Natalie came back in with a fist full of dresses, some that stood out to me straight away as what I would normally choose and other’s I wouldn’t have.  Natalie and Nora encouraged me to try on every piece, if only to get a sense of what doesn’t work as well as what does.   Well, let me tell you, I LOVED every single one, even the slim fitting 60’s style print dress and the boat neck pink and white chevron dress.  Natalie had taken one look at me and felt confident enough in her own knowledge of style to bring back some beautiful dresses that made me feel like a superstar!  She had spotted that I usually drown myself in clothes bigger than I need and without saying a thing made me realise that 14/16 wasn’t my size, I am a size 14.  And that felt good!
I was having so much fun, I asked Natalie if she could find some other bits and pieces for me to try on… and then she walked back in with print trousers…  I nearly lost faith there and then but lo and behold, they are now nestled in my wardrobe after me trying them on and literally feeling like a million dollars! Personal ShopperI have to tell you that there was one piece of clothing that I wasn’t sold on for my own reasons and Natalie wasn’t put off at all, she didn’t push it onto me, in fact it almost made her more determined to find an alternative and off she went again…
I enjoyed this stress free, comfortable and private way of shopping so much that I will be back again… very soon!
