This stunning Christmas theme wedding was submitting by photographer, Claire Hirst. Charlotte Bell and Stephen Collins, who currently live in Ferryhill, married at St Luke’s Church on 10th December 2016. The couple met on a Sunday afternoon in 2010 at the local pub, while they were working in Sedgefield.

While celebrating their 5 year anniversary in a lovely spa hotel in St Ives, Stephen popped the question following their enjoyable evening meal. “After the meal we went back to the hotel room where Stephen had arranged candles, petals, champagne and strawberries. Stephen got down on one knee out on the balcony with the sound of the sea in the background”, says Charlotte.

Although the couple are not hugely religious, they decided to marry in a church ceremony, and chose St Luke’s Church in Ferryhill, where all the family had been married and baptised. On deciding where to hold their reception, the couple liked the idea of a castle wedding. When they arrived at Walworth Castle in Darlington, they knew instantly this was the venue for them. “Walworth had a special feel; it has all the charm and appearance of a grand old castle but internally decorated sympathetically modern and is well laid out.”

Charlotte wore a breath-taking full length gown with beading details in the body, back and arms along with a classic full train. Her four bridesmaids wore matching red dresses with a cosy ivory fur shawl, perfect for the winter month. Stephen wore a dapper Ted Baker navy blue suit, with Ted Baker brown shows, finished off with a gold tie and handkerchief. His groomsmen wore similar suits, but with a red tie and handkerchief.

“Initially we had wanted to get married on the anniversary of us meeting which was the 1st October, however along the way someone mentioned the idea of a Christmas theme wedding and we fell in love with the idea! We had a cosy laid back feel to the wedding which complimented the venue perfectly, with homemade centrepieces from logs from the farm and old jars, personalised baubles as favours and berries, red roses and gypsophelia in the bouquets and buttonholes.”

Charlotte made a lot of elements for the wedding herself, including the evening invitations, menus and favours for the children, and was helped along the way by her friend Abi Carr who created the table plan, and sister-in-law Amanda Bell styled Charlotte’s hair on the day and put together a photo booth.
To entertain the guests during the reception was a magician, but things didn’t go fully to plan. “The magician had got the times muddled up so wasn’t at the venue when we arrived. The running joke of the day was that the magician had disappeared!”

So, how did the couple feel on the day? “Amazed, overwhelmed and loved, we didn’t stop smiling all day. We were bowled over by the generosity and well wishes and over the moon how perfect everything panned out.”
“Our photographer, Claire Hirst, was fantastic, professional and efficient and slipped into the day as part of the family.”
