Real wedding: David & Joanne's fun, beautiful and relaxed day

Real wedding: David & Joanne's fun, beautiful and relaxed day Reading Time: 5 minutes

We’re very excited to share with you this real wedding from David and Joanne Brookes who live in Norton, Stockton-on-Tees. They tied the knot at St Mary the Virgin Church, Norton and held their reception at Judges Hotel.  After spending their first Valentines meal at the hotel, the couple knew that the venue was perfect for the wedding they had dreamt of.
“There was no overriding theme; we just wanted everyone to enjoy themselves. There were about 17 children invited to the day & evening, so it was important to make sure there was enough space for them to entertain themselves without parents having to continually look after them. The privacy of Judges’ Courtyard Suite was perfect for this. We wanted the wedding to be a very relaxed occasion, nothing too formal and also quite plain. The colour scheme we chose was ivory and midnight blue, with white orchid’s for the flowers.”
“During the daytime we played pre-selected songs and bought the children outdoor games to play with – such as space hoppers and twister. A family relative also brought a guitar and impressed everyone with some singing! On the evening we went over-the-top and had a disco, 2 casino tables, table fusball, a photo booth and a magician.”
Joanne: My dress was a dropped waist, strapless, sweetheart ivory wedding gown by Ronald Joyce. It was the first wedding dress shop I’d been in and at the time I was looking at bridesmaid dresses rather than my wedding dress. I was persuaded by the shop assistants to try some dresses on and it was the second one I tried.
“Bridesmaids were one adult who wore a midnight blue Fever London full length Ivy gown. 1 child bridesmaid wore a plain ivory mid-calf dress with a midnight blue sash and our young daughter, the flower girl, wore an Alfred Angelo navy blue and ivory dress. Groomsmen wore blue 3-piece suits from Next’s Italian range with Jeff Banks white shirts and blue ties, except the groom who wore a red tie.”
Joanne: I spent the morning at home with the bridesmaids and my parents eating bacon sandwiches and drinking champagne. Two lovely ladies from Solo came around 9am to do hair and makeup. The Green Florist delivered my bouquet and the bridesmaids wrist corsages, along with a huge vase of flowers from the groom with a note saying “see you soon”. Jen Hart arrived to take a few pictures and then my mother and chief bridesmaid helped me into my dress. The Jag arrived from Millennium Limos to take the bridesmaids and my mother to the church leaving myself and my dad alone. He was more nervous than me when the car came back for us. It was just a short drive to the church…
Three words to describe your wedding day: Fast, memorable, relaxed.
David: I spent the previous night at Judges, woke up early in the morning, opened the curtains to a beautiful bright summer’s morning, perfect blue sky and lush green grounds. It was then I knew that everything was going to be just as we’d dreamed of. I took a walk around the grounds before breakfast to clear my head and take everything in. The groomsmen & I had a relaxed breakfast outside on the patio before going to get ready and wait for the car to arrive and take us to the church to meet the photographer for pre-ceremony pictures & to greet the guests. There are so many favourite moments; if I had to pick one it would be walking back down the aisle towards all our friends and family as a married couple with our young daughter.
Three words to describe your wedding day: Everything was perfect.

Our advice to couples planning their wedding would be strive for everything that you want; but stick within your boundaries. Plan and budget. Have an early wedding to maximise the day. Have a receiving line-up; it’s the only way to guarantee speaking with everyone – the day and night go so quickly! Shop around, use ebay and other such websites!

Jen Hart our photographer was an excellent, natural photographer, beautifully capturing our special occasion. She blended in, mixed well with everyone and took some amazing shots. Her top package offer was reasonable and delivered us exactly what we wanted.
Jen Hart: This was a really fun and relaxed day which was so well planned to keep both the adults and children well entertained. The sun shone and there were plenty of opportunities for candid shots as well as more classic, romantic pictures which is what the bride and groom both wanted. I loved every minute.
