Lauren and Andrew met on an evening in Durham. Lauren was out for a friend’s birthday and Andrew was on an impromptu night out.
“Andrew and I had gone to Edinburgh for a weekend break. Andrew proposed in Edinburgh Zoo – it was a hot summer’s day and he chose a secluded spot at the top of a hill which overlooked the city.
We wanted a venue exclusive to us, which Lartington Hall offers. After visiting a few lovely venues, Lartington Hall blew us away. It is truly stunning, without being in any way ostentatious. We loved that we could have our full day of celebrations in one venue, yet be married in a beautiful chapel, have our wedding breakfast in the elegant dining room and enjoy our reception in the grand ballroom.
We didn’t want to base our wedding on one set colour or theme but the styles we chose throughout edged towards a mixture of rustic, vintage and English country garden. Having made our own ‘His and Hers’ crossword for ‘advice for the Bride and Groom’ cards, they made for some very interesting comments! The children had their own ‘Eye Spy’ photography challenge to complete.
We did a lot of DIY to personalise the day by decorating mason jars for our flowers, spruced up old picture frames and mirrors for our seating chart and menu board, and we created a collage made up of Polaroid snaps of Andrew and I throughout the years.
For our favours we filled jars with sweets and paying homage to our Edinburgh Zoo proposal, we spray painted zoo animal figures gold and stuck them to the jar lids.”
