Here at KTB HQ we would like to send our congratulations to Jennifer and Simon Armstrong who tied the knot three years ago this month. To celebrate this we take a stroll down memory lane to celebrate the happy couple’s three year anniversary.
The couple got married at Wynyard Hall on the 23rd October 2011 after growing up together from the age of 11 when they both began secondary school. Jennifer and Simon both opted for a beautiful autumn themed day at the luxury country house hotel.
Jennifer: I had a job at a children’s play area in Stockton, and managed to get him a job too, this is when we really started to get to know each other and when we started to fall in love. It was all very sweet really. We were about 17 now so Simon took me to the cinema on out first date and that’s where it started. . Five years later Simon took me to a place in Loch Lomond where I had spent some lovely holidays with family camping as a child. It was at the side of the Loch where he proposed, I panicked and hugged him when I realised what he was going to do, I wouldn’t let him get down on one knee!
Jennifer: Throughout the morning I was total relaxed, I really enjoyed myself. We had stayed in Wynyard that night, so it was me and all the bridesmaids in the big room. I spent most of the morning laid in the massive bed in my PJs watching the others getting their hair and makeup done. My best friend was so excited she threw me into my dress!
We were getting married at 1pm and at about 12:50 the registrar came in and said “about five minutes until you make your way down…” Oh my goodness!!! It hit me like a brick, I remember the butterflies in my stomach as she was asking me all her questions. As soon as I got there and held Simon’s hand, I was ok-ish, my legs were shaking and we laughed all the way through our vows and listened to our friends give readings.
Then the evening got started, all our friends were there and everyone was singing, dancing, drinking and just having a great time. It was perfect!
Jennifer: As I am a plus sized, I found it difficult and quite embarrassing to try and squeeze into a dress and have an assistant yanking at a dress clearly built for a slim girl. So, after some not so great experiences and some internet research I found the perfect place in Castleford, ‘The big Day’ thebigdayuk.com, the ladies were amazing! My mum stopped and showed me a dress she liked, I wasn’t keen on it myself, but thought this is my day to play princess dress up! I took it into the room and hung it with the others. As it was the last dress picked up it was the first one I tried and it was the one! It fit perfectly and my mum and gran both welled up with tears. It was worth the travel, the experience was amazing and I think it was very much down to the ladies who owned the shop.
We had five bridesmaids: my two sisters, Simon’s sister and my two best friends. We looked around lots and lots of shops for the girls, there are so many styles, it’s totally nutty. After a very long day shopping we found the dresses we wanted in Laura Day Bridal in Middlesbrough. The groomsmen were much easier, we went on a trip to Newcastle with all the parents. We went into Moss Bros, they tried a few colours on, and it was settled in about half an hour!
What was your favourite moment?
I have to say the best moment was our first dance. We danced to Billy Joel’s – Always a Woman To Me, its lyrics are odd but I just love it. It was Simon and I to begin with, just dancing slowly in the middle and having a cuddle and then our parents, bridesmaids and groomsmen joined us. It was perfection; I remember it with such affection.
How would you sum up your day in 3 words?
Our perfect day.
