As a self proclaimed fake tan addict, I’ve experienced it all – from patches that look like interesting skin conditions, streaks that get questionable glances on nights out, to channelling the look of an Oompa Loompa. However, that aside, fake tan (when done correctly), can give you that gorgeous faux and natural glow when the sun won’t be shining on your W-day. We shop the best tans on the market when looking for an extra glow this winter!
Firstly, before having a go yourself preparation is key, your skin must be prepped properly to avoid any embarrassing situations! I’d recommend exfoliating at least twice a week in the run up to when you know your tan will be applied. Tough Stuff by Cocoa Brown, £5.99 – is amazing for getting the job done without leaving your skin feeling sore after a good scrub.
1. Sienna X Instant Bronzing Gel – £12.95, www.feelunique.com/p/Sienna-X-Instant-Bronzing-Gel-200ml
Without doubt one of the nicest smelling tans on the market! Smelling like a packet of Rich Tea is a thing of the past with Sienna X tan. After exfoliating I apply a thin layer of tan to a tanning mit and leave it over night, the outcome is a gorgeous deep colour. Sienna X also offer a gradual lotion range which would probably be more suited to fairer skin. I would definitely recommend this product if you’re looking for a good quality tan but don’t want to break the bank.
2. Xen-Tan Premium Sunless Tan Dark Lotion Absolute LUXE – £40.00, www.asos.com/Xen-Tan
I know what you’re thinking, £40.00 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a fake tan. But when a tan is THIS good it’s hard not to treat yourself, especially in the run up to your wedding day. A cult favourite in the blogging world, US brand Xen Tan promises to provide an instant, long-lasting dark colour with natural olive undertones as well as a fragrant vanilla scent. And it does just that! However if you’re a do it yourself novice and the word ‘dark’ in the title puts you off, it’s probably best to wait till you’re a bit more confident in the art of tanning.
3. Cocoa Brown One Hour Tan Mousse – £6.99, www.feelunique.com/p/Cocoa-Brown
It’s rare to find a tan that keeps me going back for more and is reasonably priced within my tight budget. Cocoa Brown is this tan. And even better, it only takes an hour to develop. Cocoa Brown One Hour Tan has gained cult beauty status since it was launched and has received multiple industry awards. What’s best about this tan is that it isn’t sticky after application and smells lovely! So all that’s needed to do is sit for 60 minutes until it’s ready to wash off and you’re good to go. As a sufferer of eczema, Cocoa Brown is kind to my skin and doesn’t irritate or stick to dry, problem areas. A definite must buy!
4. St Moriz Tanning Mousse – £4.99, www.feelunique.com/p/St-Moriz-Tanning-Mousse
The mousse formula means it is super easy to apply and the dark colour means you won’t be left with any missed areas! Leaving tan on over night can often be uncomfortable but the outcome in the morning is a flawless brown and NOT orange tan. Even better, the price of St Moriz mousse means that you can splash out on other wedding day essentials! Perfect.
5. Vita Liberata Intense Tinted Self Tan, £22.50, www.feelunique.com/p/Vita-Liberata
The first thing that you notice with any of the Vita Liberata range is the packaging, it feels and looks so expensive! For a beautifully natural and fast drying natural tan result, Vita Liberata delivers. Again, the smell of this tan is lovely and can be topped up to your desired colour. Would definitely buy this product again and would be great as a ‘splurge’ product!
Which fake tan do you use?
