This week we’re talking about marrying abroad and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to feature KTB’s very own Suzanne’s wedding in the beautiful Mauritius. Suzanne Rusinek married Jonpaul Venus on the 13th February 2001 at the Maritim Resort & Spa. The pair met through friends at Sixth Form and knew marrying abroad would be for them.
We got married abroad as we didn’t want any fuss, it seemed the best option. It was just the two of us.
Suzanne speaks highly of leaving behind all the stress and tying the knot elsewhere: “I would highly recommend getting married abroad, I know so many brides that often have said to me, “I wish I’d done what you did.” The only drawback however, is if you don’t invite your parents they will remind you of it often!
The staff were excellent at our hotel, I asked for purple and white flowers and I got the most beautiful bouquet with purple orchids. The photo’s of the wedding are not Photoshopped either, it really was that beautiful sky. A top tip would be to choose a hotel on the west side of the island for the best photo opportunities.
I can’t speak highly enough of Mauritius, it’s multi-cultural and everyone gets on, you never hear of any political or religious problems either.
It rained heavy on our wedding day and I thought we may have to have the service inside, I always tell brides-to-be when they worry about the weather for their wedding day, that even going aboard doesn’t mean a dry day but we were lucky and the sun eventually came out for us!
Would/have you chosen a luxury location abroad for your wedding?
