What is a naked wedding cake?
The idea I guess is the polar opposite of a formal iced wedding cake. The natural sponge layers are on display sometimes with a smear of buttercream icing to give a semi naked effect.
A couple of things to know, these are quite tricky to pull off because anyone that bakes any kind of cake will know that if you leave it out in the open the sponge will tend to start drying out. Not great news if your cake supplier drops off the cake at 9am and your not eating until 4pm. Timing and storage is key. A semi naked wedding cake offers the sponge a bit more protection which might be a better option depending on your venue and circumstances.
