Quirky is a good thing, right? Your wedding day should be your day, your way and you shouldn’t settle for a venue that doesn’t fit you as a couple and anything that is less than amazing. With this in mind, join us for our series of blog posts dedicated to discovering wedding venues that tick all of your boxes!

Today is the turn of Shortflatt Tower who actually encourage ‘being different’ at their venue…bonus! Tucked away in the heart of beautiful Northumberland countryside, this grade one Pele Tower is quite a sight. Surrounded by luscious gardens and sprawling grounds, it’s hard to believe Newcastle city centre is only a few miles away.

Something that drew me to this venue, apart from it’s historic architecture, personality and elegance, is the opportunity to embrace ‘something different.’ Getting all of your crazy little ideas onto paper, after all of your hours spent ‘pinning’ and lusting after looks on Pinterest, then eventually turning them into a reality is what your wedding day should be about after all!

Our ‘Be Different’ service aims to allow you to create your wedding exactly how you envision it, no matter how “out there” it may be. From colours to costume balls – choose any theme you can think of… Jugglers, stilt-walkers, bonfires, performances, concerts, plays, BBQ’s & hog roasts.

We definitely like the sound of that! And not just that, we can’t help but think about how an intimate affair would look at this venue, as they also specialise in small celebrations too. A classic English country garden wedding here spent in the gorgeous grounds sipping Pimms and drenched in sunshine (we would hope), would really be something quite beautiful and we can’t help but think how the photos would look at the end of it. It’s not often a venue comes along that I can get excited about and add to my mental note of potential future venues. We all do that, yes?!

Gorgeous sandstone walls planted with fruit trees, stone paved sitting areas, a stone terrace, castellated ewe hedges, lawns and trees make every photograph special. There is also a stunning rose quartz fountain, the stone that represents LOVE. At dusk the fountain is illuminated with coloured lights and is visible through the windows from inside the Tower.

The marquee looks spectacular and will be decorated and styled to your own unique taste. I love how this one looks so fresh and quintessentially British with pastel bunting and gorgeous cake table. Treat your guests to sheer luxury and choose from 8 sumptuous bedrooms in the original tower Keep or cottage areas. How amazing is that bath!

Shortflatt Tower is definitely one of those venues with added charm and one we hope to be seeing more of in the future. Is Shortflatt your dream venue or do you know someone who married there? We’d love to know!
