Start by measuring the circumference and height of your chosen vessel. Decide how wide you want your fabric strips to be, then divide the height by the width of your strip. This will tell you how many strips of fabric you will need to cover the vessel. Add one extra length for overlapping when winding onto your vessel.
Measure and cut the strips to be a few millimetres longer than the circumference of your vessel. The few extra millimetres is to allow you to overlap the joins as you stitch each strip together.
Pin the strips end to end and complete a neat running stitch in you chosen coloured cotton, removing the pins as you go to make one continuous ribbon of fabric.
Wind the fabric strip around your vessel from bottom to top overlapping slightly to cover the surface underneath. Once at the top, secure with a pin.
