How to fold a pocket Square

Having to fold a pocket square,or tie a cravat for the first time doesn’t have to be too daunting. Just a quick guide and a practice beforehand and you should be good to go.

Don’t just stuff it in your top pocket any-old-how. James Bond wouldn’t do that.

Step One:

Start out by laying the pocket square on a flat surface. So far so good.

Step Two:

Fold one corner in so that you get two overlapping triangles (they don’t want to line up exactly, giving you two points at the tip).

Step Three:

Fold one side of the triangle into the middle.

Step Four:

Do the same on the opposite side.

You could also try a simple “fold in half, fold in half again” for a squared look – make sure the rounded edge is poking out, not the pocket square edges. For a neater look, follow the steps above but make sure the triangle tips like flat on each other in Step Two, so you only have one point.

Finally, once you’re dressed, check your suit, and the other lads. Fluff free? Tie straight? Shoes polished? Then you’re good to go.
