The Groom’s Guide – How to Tie a Bow Tie

Don’t assume that your menfolk are adept at dressing themselves, in fact they probably won’t have given any aspect of this a thought at all, unlike you.  If you have bought fancy bow-ties and they don’t normally wear these items don’t assume that they will sort this themselves on the day.  Ideally give the guys chance to practice ahead of the big day to avoid any unnecessary  drama.

Step One – Start with the bowtie lying with the fancy side up. Adjust so right side is shorter than the left. The left end is A and the end on the right, we’ll call B.
Step Two – Move A to the right side, across B.

Step Three – Bring A under B and up through the neck loop.
Step Four – At the joint, fold B towards the right and then towards the left to create the bow shape.

    Step Five – Bring A straight down over the middle of the bow shape that was made with B.
    Step Six – Fold A back towards the chest and pinch the fold.

    Step Seven – Push the pinched end (A) through the loop behind B.
    Step Eight – Pull on the folded parts of the bow to tighten. Adjust until suave.
