1. Think about your venue – Always take into consideration your surroundings before thinking about dressing your venues with flowers.
2. Wedding Flower Budget – Work out a budget for floral decor and confirm this with your florist from the initial consultation. This will mean your expectations will be managed and they will work with you to create something beautiful on budget. Flowers are expensive so it is important that the budget is set.
3. Do your research – Look into which flowers will be in season when you get married. Choosing out of season flowers can be expensive.
4. Choosing the right style of florist – Look through florists portfolios and social media platforms before booking an appointment. Florists are very adaptable and extremely creative and most perhaps have a preferred style, will be able to create flowers for the look you want. The key is communication and having some pictures you can use to communicate your ideas will help the process.
5. Create a mood board – Take the time to look in magazines, books, Instagram and Pinterest for flower decor styles you love. Then create a mood board for your florist, have fun with it and be flexible.
6. Choose local – Use local flowers, so many florists now celebrate using the made-in-England flowers freshly grown in their gardens.
7. Dress your cake – Nothing looks prettier and more luxurious than dressing your cake its fresh flowers, have your florist and cake designer work together to create a show-stopping cake.
8. Reuse – Look to reuse any flowers from your ceremony at your reception venue
9. Get personal – Use flowers that have meaning and bring back happy memories for you, don’t just go off colour and what is most popular.
10. Vessels – Get creative with your flower vessels and dress extra items for a creative luxury feel. Adorn bookcases, crates, dressers, chairs, trees and walls with flowers to create a wow factor.
The cost of Wedding flowers can soon add up but to do your wedding properly its important to get this right. Its the one element that is often sacrificed over other elements and it can often show.
If your not sure where to start read on. As a quick guide £300 to £500 is going to be considered a small wedding flower budget for your wedding flowers. However, put this into perspective against the scale of your wedding. If your only inviting 10 people and have no bridesmaids then this kind of spend is most likely ample to get you a decent show. If your having a larger wedding with more bridesmaids and ushers etc. Then your spend is going to be spread more thinly.
Consider if you have pushed the boat out on a lavish venue but can’t afford to dress it properly with flowers it will stand out. There are ways to make your flowers go further but make sure you allow a sufficient budget to do thus properly.
Typically I would suggest a budget as follows to start with. From here you can add or cut depending on what your requirements are.
Attendants Flowers: £500
Ceremony flowers: £200-£300
Venue Flowers: £500-£900
This would cover basic essential wedding flowers to a reasonably good level. Obviously the more impact and wow factor you want the greater the cost will be. Its not unusual for couples to spend thousands on their wedding flowers to get the overall reaction and aesthetic they want.
